I read a recent quote from a nutritionist I much admire, Orla Walsh about how we tend to reward children with food these days and I have to say I winced, I am completely guilty of that at time or using it as a keeping them entertained too. Hashtag-bad mama Hashtag-tell me a person who doesn’t from time to time. BUT based on my last post and small goals-the boys eating better is on the longer list but very important for many a reason. Max eats pretty ok but I am convinced since his first taste of sugar on his first birthday his palate has altered and I am no sugar nazi but his reach for the bold things and his refusal for items he would have eaten with glee has wained. Josh is a really poor eater, oh how I would love for him to dip some houmous, eat parma ham, veggie based muffins but nope fish fingers are his gig. I really try to stick to 3 good meals a day and breakfast usually starts well but depending on the day lunch can be affected and dinner is usually something they will eat and I feel I can pass as nutritious. More time dedicated to meal times I think is important. We don’t eat with the boys but focusing on the time they do making it an event as opposed to a passing activity is something I really want to focus on.
You will see recent and upcoming posts about snacks and a new range of chilled food in Aldi and to me to highlight this was a no brainer and I already almost always have a pack of rice cakes, their biscotti and a fruit pouch or two in my bag as a quick go to for snacks on the run. I am a big fan of their Mamia range of chilled food produced by Pip & Pear so I am looking forward to trying the new Goodness range. I try and get the boys eating what we eat but it is handy to have good prepared dishes in the fridge for a busy weekend day and when Josh is insisting that pasta or fish fingers are the only thing he will eat and I don’t have the battle quite in me! Some days it’s about the easy left eh and knowing they are not eating rubbish helps too…
An update since I wrote this post later last week is Josh’s visit to the dentist, we’ve had some very unfortunate and worrying news about his teeth but that’s a whole other post and a whole new outlook and learning…
Nesting is in full flow in our house at the moment. I’m not that fast on my feet these days but slowly but surely with the help of hubby and family we are getting there.
I am purchasing the last few bits and just when I thiught I was nearly there, this popped into my inbox-Aldi’s Baby and Toddler Event-happening this Thursday. I have written about these before because there are always items that tempt me. This time between Josh and the new baby there are quite a few. We are nearly all set for our holybops.. Excitement is building and the bags are nearly packed.
This year seems a lot easier than the last two with Josh. He is getting older so you need a little less and can manage with stuff over there a little more. However we have brought some essentials we hope to help the travel and whole holiday a little more smoothly. Here is our top 5:
1. Sticker book: Great for the plane or getting an extra 10 minutes at lunch!
2. Snacks: We will stock up when we are there too but always handy to have a few of the old reliables to hand…
3. Puddle Jumper: A friend of mine recommend this and I think it will be our saving grace by the pool.
4. Nemo Earphones: I picked these up in Aldi a few weeks ago and thought they would be handy for the iPad on the plane or if we are trying to get a little more time out of him at dinner.
5. Familiar items: We have bought a few new bits but I have packed some of his bedtime routine items to help with the change of sceneand routine over there.
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post, an unexpectedly busy time in our house hold but when this came in my inbox I wanted to share…
Aldi always have great baby/kids events and I have featured a couple here before. My husband who works near one has queued many a time to pick up the latest bargain!
I chose 3 of my favs from their next event which is taking place on Thursday 21st April and like all the others I’d get there early to avoid disappointment!
1. Table and Chair Set
Definitely my top pick is this cute kids table and chairs with a blackboard top. We already have a table and chair set up in our kitchen for Josh’s crafts but I am very tempted my this! It will be priced at €39.99
2. Nappy Change Kit
I saw variations of these after I had Josh and thought they were a great idea. Once you are past the changing bag stage these would be great to just throw into your own bag and at this price you can’t really go too wrong. They will be priced at €9.99
3. Cot Pockets
Finally I spotted these and the thought they were a great idea. Josh always wants to bring all manner of things into his cot with him and this is a great way of tidying them up and he still has them to hand. They come in nice bright designs to so would be a lovely addition to any child’s room. They come in sets of 2 and will be priced at €8.99
There are lots of other great items and a few others I’ll be trying to pick up but I hope you like my selection and manage to get your hands on some of the great deals!

The discount retailers have really come up trumps this festive season with some fabulous finds. This week Aldi strikes again with a range of Christmas jumpers for men, women, kids & dogs!
Christmas jumpers have become all the rage in recent years. We wore them for the last 2 years on the day itself but converting back to smart attire this year. They are a fun item to have in your wardrobe however and with prices starting at €8.99 for the kids sizes it’s worth a trip to pick up the range for the family. All available from next Thursday, 3rd December.
Another great event happening at Aldi for the next 2 weeks is Aldi Give a Gift campaign in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul which takes place in all 122 Aldi stores from 23rd November – 4th December.
You can drop a gift into the Give A Gift box at your local Aldi store, and your gift will go directly to a local family in your community this Christmas.
Each gift collected will be distributed to families in the community where the gift was donated, so the gift will stay local.
It would seem that despite the fact that Halloween has not yet been and gone but Christmas is being forced into the fore front of all our minds..
