12 things I’ve learnt with 12 months with Max

Standard

 1. There is more room in my heart and love I didn’t know possible-it was hard to imagine how I could love another child like I loved my first born Josh but once Max arrived the love was instant and deep.

2. Tiredness I didn’t know possible-if I thought I was tired pre baby or with one this was on another level and unfortunately continues to be with another bad sleeper in our lives but most days you just learn to live with it.

3. Sibling bond-as an only child this was magic for me to watch, from very early on they became firm pals and even though Max is still small they manage to have great craic.

4. Learning to be a mum of boys-when fart noises, poo and general dirtiness becomes common place.

5. My heart is so full but so is my mind-there is literally ALWAYS something to do.

6. I became knarkier in the last 12 months than probably ever before-see points 5 & 2 above!

7. I’ve learnt to let things go a little-coming from a perfectionist in certain areas that was quite the challenge but it’s a case of having to sometimes…

8. Fun makes a family-it’s the simple days out together we have as a family of four that truly are the best.

9. It’s not just a myth your boobs can reach your belly button-😳 12 months of feeding and second time round and this is the result!

10. Wine is no longer your friend, coffee is-a glass or two is perfection at the weekend but a hangover is beyond deadly with 2 busy boys so a coffee a day keeps the madness away.

11. Your time with your husband is precious but rare-this is something we both miss madly at times but we know these are the trench years and will also miss them when they are gone.

12. I realised quite quickly that once I had Max that my urge to be a mother to another baby was incredibly strong and 12 months on despite all the above and because of all the above that hasn’t changed if we are lucky enough of course and give me a year or two of our new normality before another comes into the mix!

Josh turns 1

Standard

Well what a week it was.. The week outrboy turned one. This day last week we were recovering from his party and he was a few days just turned one. It was a fabulous few days full of fun and family.

On the day itself, we started with pressies then brekkie with granny back in one of the first spots we went with Josh after he was born. Then it was back for his ‘cake smash’ shoot. After this it was nap time for the birthday boy before family joined us to blow out the candles on a number 1 cake made my mama and raise a glass to our boy. It was a very special day.

Next up was the ‘dear zoo’ party. Wow what fun we had. The theme was ‘dear zoo’ his favourite book and we kept it simple and focused on fun. We had old school fairy cakes, rice krispie buns and sausies. A scrummy cake made by a friend and plenty of tea and coffee for the parents. We hired a super entertainer from Genie Mackers who mesmerised the kids and they all left with their party bags, happy I hope. Josh loved it, he was pooped at the end so went for a nap-perfect timing for the clean up and then myself and my husband went for a quick local drink to end the celebrations of our boy!

We were overwhelmed by the love and generosity from so many on this momentous occasion-we think he’s the biz but it seems so do many more…And why wouldn’t they-look at that face 🙉

See some pics and links below that helped the day be so special:

Birthday Planning 🎈

Standard

Josh’s big first birthday is in less than a week away which means his party is just over a week away! As a previous party planner, I have taken this challenge head on… Resulting in 18 kids plus parents somehow fitting into our modest semi d! Eek!

Anyway back to the fun stuff. Early on we decided on a ‘Dear Zoo’ theme when I came upon party products of Josh’s favourite book! He cracks up at ‘the giraffe is too tall’ and so on and so on…so it was a perfect fit.

We decided early on to have it at home {we may live to regret this} but also decided on an entertainer so I used one of my previous contacts, Genie Makers and booked her in. An hour show of bubbles, singing and a magic show should keep the nearly 20 kids mesmerised for a few minutes anyway…

I ordered the Dear Zoo party bits online and picked up some party bag stuff in dealz too. For food we are keeping it simple with old school fairy cakes, krispie buns, sausages and some mini sambos. A baker friend is going to pull together a chocolate biscuit number 1 cake to blow out the candles too!

For the day itself we decided to do a cake smash photoshoot to mark the occasion with the same photographer who did his 2 week shoot. We are also having a few family over to raise a toast and mama is going to attempt a number 1 coffee cake for this as it was what I requested the night I got out of hospital…

For his gifts, we have kept with the zoo theme and got him a cute wooden pull along, a dear zoo puzzle and book. He is so little we didn’t feel the need to go mad. We bought him cute little t shirts in Next that say ‘I am 1’ for his party and ‘birthday boy’ for his party so I think we are all set.

Here are all the links and I’ll fill you in once we survive the party…
